In closing, Burnes said: "We work hard to be excellent citizens wherever we do business. We greatly value this plant in our relationship with this region. I hope and believe it will enable us to be a good corporate citizen here. It is hard being a manufacturer in the U.S. We work very hard to continue to be able to do that.
An excellent citizen, I guess that means what they did to the workers was great! and those workers came from the community!
They value the MONEY! $$$$ not the people they dump on every day they operate, not their workers, not even the law. They have shown no integrity, no respect, and they continue to try and be nice hoping against hope they will get their EPA permits.. No WAY!!!
we do not need a Business like Scabot in this area or in this country. They respect only MONEY$$$ Down with YOU Ken and Down With CABOT as a whole..
And Keep your Blood money it won't buy you out of were your going. Give to the community and Dump on it at the same time environmentally and with such despicable actions you believe the money will save you? your harming our children and us with your pollution, your lack of respect etc.. GOODBYE SCABOT we do not need you! |

To whom it may concern
We are writing you today to address certain issues with Cabot Supermetals, located at County Line Road in Boyertown PA, 19512. As concerned workers, and public citizens we wish to address the following safety concerns.
Located under and in the foundation of some buildings are scrap and old tires, building 009 is one place and we are sure there are others. Building 009 contains approximately 43 tires in its foundation.
Recently there was a sink hole that developed inside building 047 from years of acid and other hazardous waste being dropped into the waste drainage systems. We are quite sure that the required repairs to the sink hole did not include de-conning the area; it was just filled in with cement. There were other incidents like this in other buildings 019, 074,073 where HF and other hazardous materials were possible left in the ground as well.
In building 032 the old KCELL building process liquids were vented to the outside back wall and allowed to drain from inside the plant onto the ground area past the fencing. In this building also numerous NEC violations are left uncorrected. The hand washing sink drains into the electrical substation outside onto the ground, it used to drain out of the building onto the ground and then run under the fence into the swampy area adjacent to the rear exit door.
In building 046 there is a major problem with TA dust it has been found in the MCC (Motor Control Center) for power distribution to this area, also inside the conduits, raceways, junction boxes, and receptacle boxes. It coats the walls, it can be found inside the main operator control panel coating fuses, the PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and inside most any electrical device. The Company can’t seem to find NFPA standard 86C on TA and Vacuum furnaces, and they won’t follow the regulations stated therein. The platform area under the furnaces is not kept clean and TA dust and Magnesium lay exposed on the floor. The OSHA and NEC codes are being violated and nothing is being done.
Behind building 098 there is a scrubber system building that also contains numerous OSHA, NEC violations.
The main plant water supply building (038) is also an area of concern for OSAH, NEC violations
Inside building 011 in the attic area there are numerous OSHA, NEC violations.
Inside and outside building 055 there is possible OSHA, NEC violations.
In building 074 there are unsealed conduits, this is a Class 1 Div 1 building. The tank farm area called the 18 tanks dike is suspect for leakage into the ground as well.
In building 087 there was an incident where a worker was not allowed to record the scrubber readings required by the EPA, they were way high, the on duty supervisor said not to record the readings until the problem was corrected and they would be in speck. Also the supervisor opened the scrubber drafts to allow more suction of the H2 coming off the process to speed up the process and possible by pass the H2 sensors the excess H2 would be vented outside via the scrubber system.
In and around buildings 073, and the waste plant there where numerous spills of hazardous waste and they were never cleaned up, just allowed to seep into the ground. There are also problems with dust inside the building 073 ore area, and on the roof of the building by the ore elevators. This ore contains radioactive particles. Again OSHA violations.
Inside and outside of building 033, inside there is an electrical distribution center that has been blocked by a large table for years. Also inside the building by the breakdown mill there is an upper platform area were the main power enters the building thru open windows, also on that upper deck there is old live cloth covered feeders hanging out of the raceway exposed and unprotected.
Building 069, when there is heavy rain the containment overflows down the street into the nearby creek. Also in building 083 the upper lagoon area this building treats the waste before it goes into the settlement lagoon. HCL, Sulfuric acid fume has coated the whole inside of the building and all of the equipment within. We also know that the environmental calibrations possibly were not being done as required, and records were not possibly kept. This area also holds the sludge storage buildings where possibly the drainage from the storage buildings is allowed to seep into the ground.
As you can see we suspect and are aware of some of the OSHA violations and they were told to the company management personal but they still exist, and nothing was done. We herby ask for a complete and very through plant inspection by OSHA, and the EPA, and any other monitoring agency so deemed necessary.
Sincerely,
Concerned Workers, and public citizens |
